Chiropractic Adjustment

A chiropractic adjustment (aka manipulation or mobilization) is the most effective tool in addressing restricted joints. Often a chiropractic adjustment is thought to just treat back pain, but it can be applied to any joint in the body.  Improper joint movement will interfere with the overall movement quality of the body and can lead to pain and/or tissue damage. Chiropractic adjustments safely and effectively restore motion to restricted joints and normalize the movement of the body as a whole.

Adjusting involves placing the body into a safe position to encourage the desired movement and applying a quick, specific force into the joint. Chiropractic adjustments are very effective at alleviating pain and improving athletic performance.

Corrective Exercises

Correcting any major muscle imbalances before beginning your rehabilitative exercise program is vital. Muscle imbalances prevent your joints from aligning and functioning properly. Poor joint function will disrupt your ability to move — putting you at greater risk for injury, chronic muscle pain, and joint pain.

That’s why at IHSP, we first look at how your body functions as a whole before prescribing rehabilitation exercises. Movement is a coordinated effort involving your brain, spinal cord, and muscles. We will assess your movement and any muscle imbalances using the NMS Functional Evaluation.

The NMS Functional Evaluation pinpoints your body’s weak links — such as poor posture, lack of flexibility, joint dysfunction, decreased strength, endurance, stability, balance, or faulty movement patterns. Based on the examination’s findings, we will design a corrective exercise routine tailored to your exact needs. And once your body is balanced, and more stable, a total fitness program can be designed to keep you performing properly.

Soft-Tissue Therapy

Soft-tissue therapies are treatment protocols designed to treat conditions dealing with muscles, tendons, fascia, ligaments, and other connective tissues.  When muscles, or other tissues, are overstressed or injured, our bodies use scar tissue as a patch repair. This is a natural part of the healing process, however if the cause of the injury is not alleviated properly the muscle will accumulate too much scar tissue and then becomes a problem.

Soft-tissue therapies work out the scar tissue and help the muscle heal normally with long-lasting results. Numerous soft-tissue therapy techniques are employed at IHSP including: massage therapy, myofascial release, Graston technique, Active Release Technique, and trigger point therapy.
